Mac Transcoding?

Any thing to do with the transcoding implementation.

Mac Transcoding?

Postby chad » Mon Sep 05, 2011 1:11 pm

I don't see the options for transcoding on the latest Mac server. I looked at the ~/My Roku/Chaneru.ini file, and changed these options:

Transcode=1
VLC_Stream=1
Trace=1
VLC_Path=/Applications/VLC.app

(I also tried /Applications/VLC.app/contents/MacOS/VLC).

I don't have a VLC_Params.txt file, and don't see an example of what might be a good starting point. Is there something I'm missing?

Instead of trying to start VLC, I just receive an HTTP error on the Roku. Is there something obvious I'm doing wrong?

Thanks in advance!

If you have the beta version of the server, you should be able to go to the server's options and check "Transcode"

Did you manually insert the transcoding options in the INI file ?

Lol, I had wrong version. Stupid me! D'oh!

I see the option now. I'll check it out later tonight. Sorry for the noise. Thanks for your response.

The path is automatically setup when you access a non Roku type movie.
On a MAC, it should end up being "/Applications/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/VLC".
On Windows, it checks for "C:/Program Files/VideoLAN/VLC/vlc.exe" or "C:/Program Files (x86)/VideoLAN/VLC/vlc.exe". If it doesn't find those, it asks where it is.

There is an option in the Chaneru app to turn ON/OFF VLC. You should set that to ON.
The VLC options in the MAC are not fully implemented as of 2.0.7.
What I want to do is allow all the VLC Options to be modifiable by the user in the app. Then send them over to the server when you play a movie.
That way you can tweak them from the Roku.
